Visiting Pompeii and Herculaneum is for many the trip of a lifetime. They are breathtaking sites. Most will argue that all you really need to enjoy your visit is being ready for the weather: sunblock, water, raincoat, the works! I disagree. Archaeological sites are not static. Interpretations change, perspectives shift, and an open mind will give them a chance to speak more loudly.
